Filmed from 2017-2020, WOMEN IN BLUE offers an unprecedented and intimate view into the inner workings of the Minneapolis Police Department in the years leading up to the murder of George Floyd in 2020.
Focusing on Minneapolis’ first female police chief Janeé Harteau, and four women in her Department, this film captures the challenges these women face as they struggle to redefine their roles in this predominantly white male police force. After a high-profile, officer-involved shooting, Chief Harteau is forced to resign. The new male chief selects only men as his top brass, passing over higher-ranking women, leaving them to grapple with what it really means to protect and serve.
